(346.5MB Quicktime) Super fun race! Lots of clean action and passing. I held off the yellow car until the 2nd to last lap, then I blew T3 and he got by me in T5. Great times though!
(272.5MB Quicktime) The bottom-40 finishers from the SMT race got to compete in this race. I placed 15th and took home $100! During this race I hounded a former driving instructor from a BMWCCA track day, George Day
(26.2MB Quicktime) Scary looking coming together during the Future Champions race. Drivers were OK as far as I know.
(138.5MB Quicktime) My first real race ever! I was doing pretty well until I messed up in the second to last lap and spun in Turn 10 at around 90MPH.
(17.0MB Quicktime) Short clip of the spin that dropped me 9 places in my first race.
(166.0MB Quicktime) We got the Miata back on track for its second race. I held my starting position through the race, which for me is what I hoped to do.
(102.1MB Quicktime) Three days of very intense driving and learning! This was by far the best time I've had on the track.
(52.4MB Quicktime) A view of Thunderhill's short course from the SCCA Race Licensing School.
(25.7MB Quicktime) The track started drying at lunchtime. This is from the session right after lunch. For some reason the last session of the day (the fastest) didn't make it to video.
(11.8MB Quicktime) It was a wet morning, a good chance to practice slide recovery!
(21.1MB Quicktime) Pop's hot lap from the BMWCCA day at Laguna.
(35.6MB Quicktime) A damp day at the track. It had rained 5" the week prior, and had rained overnight. It was a dark and cloudy day with a dry line appearing around session 3.
(83.1MB Quicktime) Somewhat raw footage from my Aiptek A-HD camera. I compressed it a little bit more than what comes off the camera to post on the web. Download and view on your computer to see the full resolution!
(28.8MB Quicktime) The beginning of a damp day at Thunderhill. The previous day was fantastic, but we didn't have a working videocamera, so here's a slower lap...
(27.2MB Quicktime) Derek does a circuit of Thunderhill in our Spec Miata.
(26.8MB Quicktime) Zack's first day in the Miata at Sears Point. What a fun track!
(28.8MB Quicktime) Derek takes the wheel of the Miata at Sears Point.
(35.3MB Quicktime) The Miata's first day at Thunderhill was big fun -- until there was a Monsoon halfway through the afternoon that cut the day short. This lap is from when it was still dry ... in the high 2:16's, which is still pretty far off of where I'd like to be.
(12.4MB Quicktime) Up close and personal with an adult male giraffe at the Out of Africa park in Arizona.
(26.1MB Quicktime) The Miata's second day at the track was a great one. I met a few SM racers, and picked up a couple of seconds. I still have a long way to go here though...
(8.5MB Quicktime) A little agricultural excursion at the exit of Turn 4. A great example of "early in, early out". I was happy that I managed to keep the car going straight -- the Miata is a very forgiving car in this way.
(28.3MB Quicktime) We debuted the Spec Miata at Laguna, and it was fantastic! Underpowered, but the handling is absolutely amazing. A very very fun car!
(28.2MB Quicktime) It rained overnight and into the morning, but was mostly dry by the afternoon. I was driving on my "street" tires, which seemed to work out OK, but I was really wishing for the track setup...
(6.2MB Quicktime) The PDC day was an opportunity for some teams to do some testing for the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race. Marshall Pruett brought his team, including several engineers from BMW, out to test the 335d race car. Diesel powered, 500+ lbs-ft of torque!
(8.8MB Quicktime) Some video of Jeff Connor and Ramon LeFrancois out on track.
(31.8MB Quicktime) My first day at Laguna Seca. It's a fun track. Much better than in the video games!
(30.7MB Quicktime) Arturo was passenger / instructor for a session. We had a great time!
(32.7MB Quicktime) A boyhood dream come true for Pop. He visited Laguna Seca in 1967, and since then has wanted to drive a car on that track. He got his chance and really hauled some butt!
(25.9MB Quicktime) A great day at Sears Point. I had a chance to polish my line, as well as serve as an informal instructor for two friends. Good stuff!
(9.1MB Quicktime) The last autocross of the season and the Top Driver Shootout. I have no chance of being the Top Driver...
(5.8MB Quicktime) She's been working on it for a couple of weeks, but it seems that Marina finally has a pretty good handle on walking.
(26.3MB Quicktime) A pretty good day at Thunderhill with the Golden Gate Lotus Club. This lap is a 2:12; we were running the bypass.
(26.9MB Quicktime) A fantastic day at the track. With Ramon's coaching, I made a big jump in speed, taking almost six seconds off my previous best lap time.
(26.1MB Quicktime) The only clear lap I got today, and still lots and lots of time on the table! Excellent instruction today from Brian Ghidinelli.
(49.6MB Quicktime) A comparison of in-car and on-roof video camera mounting.
(21.2MB Quicktime) Marina (of course) stars in a little musical matrix montage.
(57.2MB Quicktime) Try as I might, I was unable to keep pace with Arturo at Thunderhill.
(47.6MB Quicktime) A lap of Thunderhil in my car driven by Tony Colicchio. Very educational!
(59.3MB Quicktime) A fun lap chasing a 914 and a 930 around the track. The second little bit is a "flyby" of a wicked fast 935.
(20.5MB Quicktime) My only halfway decent run of the day. I had been fighting the car earlier in the day, then decided to back off on the front camber which led to OK results.
(54.0MB Quicktime) A clean lap from a very fun day with the Coastal Driving School at Infineon Raceway. I think this was my fastest lap of the day -- a 2:06.
(24.2MB Quicktime) Did I mention that she can't be stopped? Two days after she started crawling, she's now pulling herself up to standing.
(19.6MB Quicktime) Now she cannot be stopped. Marina has now mastered the skill of forward motion...
(20.3MB Quicktime) Jeff McCormick rides shotgun on my 4th run. I don't get on the brakes in time after the finish, and all hell breaks loose.
(67.8MB Quicktime) Pop was introduced to the wonders of driving on race tracks last week. He did awesomely, and had a great instructor to boot.
(52.7MB Quicktime) I take a hot lap with Margaret Cheng in the instructor seat. She is a fantastic teacher!
(22.3MB Quicktime) In-car video from the April Auto-X. This was my first run, and oddly my fastest run of the day.
(24.0MB Quicktime) Ken Garcia tears it up on one of his first runs. He is just so graceful and fast out there!
(20.3MB Quicktime) Scott Miller drives my car. This wasn't his fastest run. Apologies for the jerky camera work -- I was standing on top of the GGC trailer, and it got really bouncy a couple of times.
(35.1MB Quicktime) From slobbering raspberries to fan-four-fingers-flub, we have captured the evolution of a baby trick on video.
(33.2MB Quicktime) Real-time video of my second practice run, which turned out to be my second best. Autocross is not for the slow-handed!
(26.3MB Quicktime) A more traditional view of the autocross. This run unfortunately ended in a DNF :-(.
(42.1MB Quicktime) A slow but clean lap from the second session of the day.
(33.5MB Quicktime) Sunday brought rain to Infineon. Speeds are much lower, but there is still plenty of learning to be done!
(5.6MB Quicktime) The third session of the day wasn't quite what you would expect...
(2.5MB Quicktime) We have a jumper-chair that attaches to the top of a doorway. Marina now knows how to really enjoy it!
(15.2MB Quicktime) Marina has learned that putting her fingers in my mouth is more fun than putting them in her own!
(30.8MB Quicktime) Tailing a Carrera GT and 911 GT2 at Thunderhill.
(69.4MB Quicktime) A nice lap chasing a 600HP Porsche 911 GT2.
